Job Summary:
The Special Education Compliance Coordinator is responsible for ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations regarding special education programs. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with various stakeholders within the educational institution. The Special Education Compliance Coordinator will work closely with teachers, administrators, parents, and outside agencies to guarantee that all special education programs and services are in full compliance with applicable laws and guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement systems, processes, and procedures to ensure compliance with special education laws and regulations.
2. Monitor and review Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to ensure they adhere to legal requirements and are implemented effectively.
3. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other relevant staff members to ensure the delivery of appropriate and individualized special education services.
4. Facilitate and participate in meetings related to special education compliance, including IEP meetings, manifestation determination reviews, and due process hearings.
5. Conduct regular audits of special education documentation and records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
6. Serve as the main point of contact for external agencies and organizations involved in the provision of special education services, such as state and local education departments.
7. Provide guidance and support to teachers and staff in implementing accommodations, modifications, and other required services for students with disabilities.
8. Stay up-to-date with changes in special education laws, regulations, and best practices, and disseminate relevant information to appropriate stakeholders.
9. Collaborate with the Special Education Director to develop and deliver training programs for staff to increase knowledge and understanding of special education compliance.
10. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive student information and adhere to ethical standards in handling confidential records and data.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education Administration, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
2. Valid certification in Special Education or related area.
3. Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local special education laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
4. Proven experience in managing and ensuring compliance with special education programs in an educational setting.
5. Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
6. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing and maintaining special education records and documentation.
7. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including teachers, administrators, parents, and external agencies.
8. Ability to analyze complex information and make sound decisions in accordance with legal requirements.
9. Proficient computer skills, including experience with special education software and record-keeping systems.
10. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
